Galbally make light work of Grange to reach the last eight

TYRONE’S Galbally served notice of their abilities in the preliminary round of the Ulster club Intermediate Championship, when they brushed aside the challenge of Armagh champions Grange by double scores, 0-16 to 1-5 at Crossmaglen on Saturday.

They now face Cavan’s Laragh United in the quarter-finals on November 3, with the game set for a 2.30pm throw-in but no venue as yet selected.

On the same day, Newry Shamrocks opened their Ulster club Junior hurling Championship account, beating Armagh’s Sean Treacy’s 1-13 to 0-13 at the curtain-raiser in Cross.

Jordan Murphy’s goal in the eighth minute of the second half helped them on their way.

Three games were played in the Ulster Junior football Championship across the weekend.

Tournament favourites Rock, so impressive in their march to the Tyrone final and a side who have played in an All-Ireland final at this level a couple of years back, had little issue in disposing of Derry representatives Glack O’Connor’s, the scoreline Rock 2-15 to Glack’s 0-6 on Saturday night at Owenbeg.

Veteran Aidan McGarrity grabbed an early goal to get them under way but in truth they never looked like being troubled.

Yesterday, three games were played.

Down’s Bright lost out to Cavan side Killinkere on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-10.

It was all too comfortable for Monaghan side Blackhill in their tie against Fermanagh’s Maguiresbridge, winning 1-16 to 0-9.

The side most expected to trouble Rock are Buncrana.

They have the 2012 All-Ireland final’s man of the match Ryan Bradley back playing after a number of years spent working in the Middle East, as well as Darach ‘Jigger’ O’Connor, who started the 2014 All-Ireland final ahead of Paddy McBrearty.

They were giving up home advantage to Collegeland of Armagh at the Athletic Grounds, but gained passage to the semi-finals on a 1-14 to 0-9 scoreline and will be a side to watch.
