My Swifts must show they have learned difficult lessons: Lindsay
KRIS Lindsay admits Dungannon Swifts cannot afford to write games off.
The Swifts are really struggling for form and face a difficult run of matches, starting at Cliftonville this afternoon.
After today, they face Coleraine and then Linfield.
With just one win from their last eight in the league, things may get worse before they get better. But Lindsay (below ) believes they have to target points from every game.
He said: “It will be difficult — but you can’t keep saying that, just as you can’t keep saying we’ve been having one of those days. It is the easy way out to just write things off.
“You have to learn and try and address stuff — whether it works or not, you have to try and do it.
“We haven’t been able to come up with that solution in the last five or six games, so we need to get back to the drawing board and work on a few things.”
Since beating Glenavon to go joint top in late August, Dungannon have lost six of eight league games. And Lindsay admits their poor form has to end soon.
“We can’t keep saying we need to learn, at some point we need to put that into practice,” he added. “We had a good start and got points on the board, but we can’t afford to stand still.
“Our points total in the last number of games has been poor — extremely poor — and we need to address that. How we manage to do that is up to me and my staff and the players.”
Lindsay admits the poor run — which has included heavy defeats — is sapping morale.
“It’s always difficult when you are losing games,” he added. “It can affect confidence, but we have good players and we need them to show it a little bit more.
“It’s up to me and the staff to lift spirits, lift confidence and try and get points on the board.
“We have a good squad available and we need to come up with the right line-ups and solutions to try and make a difference.”
Goalkeeper Sam Johnston is making progress after a groin strain, while defender Caomhan McGuinness is close to a comeback. Sean Noble may be available after a hamstring strain.
