OMAGH showjumper Jenny Rankin scored her first Grand Prix success as part of the Cian O’Connor stable at the Portmore Show, Ballinderry on a new nineyear-old horse, Diarado’s Flying Dutchman, which she acquired 10 weeks ago.
Rankin, based at Waterside Stud near Ashbourne, Co Meath, returned to the national event and took on 35 other riders to win the SJI 1.40m Autumn Se- ries Grand Prix.
“This is my first win since I started with Cian,” she said. “The horse is new, I only started riding him 10 weeks ago and he has done everything I have asked of him. He is capable of jumping bigger classes and has a good future ahead.”
Rankin paid tribute to the Portmore Show, where Moy rider Frank Curran won the 1.35m Autumn Grand Prix with Oliver Twister and 16-year-old Crumlin showjumper Annie Courtney Caddam took the four-year-old title with her Luidam stallion LCC Lui 2.
“The Portmore Show was excellent with classes for all ages,” said Rankin, who will now rest her horses before travelling to Belgian shows. She will then embark on the Spanish Tour for the winter.
The Portmore five-year-old champion was Olivia Roulston of Drumquin, who won with Clovalent for the Woods Rosbotham Keonan team at Banbridge.
Belfast showjumper Joanne Blair claimed the Portmore six and seven-year-old final on Monami, while the 1.20m champion was Gerard Clarke on Merante.
Sven Hadley and Hawkswing won both the 1.30m Linda Morgan
Memorial speed and the Novice Championship with Bobby Womaniser.
O’Connor won the weekend’s four star Samorin Grand Prix in Slovakia with PSG Final, while County Antrim mare Suma’s Zorro, ridden by Sameh El Dahan for the Joanne Sloan Allen team, finished in fourth.
There was a fifth-place finish for Donacloney’s Ross Mulholland in the two star at Samorin.
Meanwhile, in Vilamoura, Portugal, Harry Marshall finished second with Kingdom Come in the 1.40m speed class, and third with Flambeau from 75 riders in the 1.45m two phase.
A first FEI win in Tryon, North Carolina delighted Nicky Galligan in the power and speed with Java’sMissJordan,bredinCounty Armagh. He said: “She’s my princess, I’ve had her since she was four-years-old.”
Derry’s Daniel Coyle also won a two star Grand Prix in Tryon with Legacy.
Brilliant Templepatrick eventer Lucca Stubington won the two star class at Bicton International with Quingenti, finishing on a dressage score of 30.2. It will put her into contention for more international selections.
