scorer. I’m thinking at that stage, ‘Great, 2-0!’.

“They (Glenavon) then went straight down the pitch and equalised. It was a double whammy in many ways, so that was disappointing.

“That’s the way football is. Glenavon played on the counter-attack really well.

“They started getting into little spaces behind us and worked a lovely move to score their goal to level. I thought there were one or two tired legs in our team to be honest.

“When the game began going away from us, we had to change our shape to a 4-4-2 to try and nick a goal to get back into it.

“We threw everything at it right at the death, so that was good. We are pleased to get something out of it.”

WARRENPOINT’S hopes of staying in the Danske Bank Premiership have been hit with playmaker Ciaran O’Connor leaving the club due to personal reasons.

Maverick O’Connor produced some superb displays last season as the Milltown men eased away from relegation and reached the Irish Cup semi-finals.

The 23-year-old (below) has not hit those heights this term but would have been an important player in Town’s bid to move away from the bottom.

O’Connor played on Saturday for new Warrenpoint boss Barry Gray in the 1-0 defeat at Carrick Rangers before announcing yesterday that he was leaving.

The former Finn Harps ace and his partner are expecting twins, and that, combined with work commitments, has led to his decision.

O’Connor said: “I’d like to thank Warrenpoint and everyone involved at the club for the last year and a half. I wish them all the very best for the remainder of the season.”

In turn, the Milltown club offered O’Connor best wishes going forward.

Meanwhile, Warrenpoint have confirmed that ex-Ballinamallard United boss Gavin Dykes has joined Gray’s coaching staff.

In another appointment, Robert McQuillan has been promoted from the Under-21s to firstteam coach at Warrenpoint.

Last week Stephen McDonnell was dismissed as manager. McDonnell’s assistant manager Colm Barron has also departed along with goalkeeping coach Mark Rimmington.
