Beauty clinic opening new city practice

A CO Down aesthetics and skincare rejuvenation practice is expanding into Belfast with an investment of £250,000 and the creation of nine new jobs.

While countless businesses across Northern Ireland have been feeling the adverse effects of Brexit, Younique Aesthetics Ltd has seen demand for its services rise.

Lesley McGarrity, the firm’s senior group manager, said an increasing number of customers came from the Republic of Ireland to avail of treatments at the clinic at Monaghan Court in Newry as a result of legislation south of the border which means only doctors can administer botox and dermal filler treatments, which cost between £120 and £195.

In Northern Ireland, other healthcare professionals, including nurses and dentists, can deliver the treatments, making it cheaper here than in the Republic.

Since Ms McGarrity joined the team at the award-winning company, she has concentrated on marketing and promoting the business, resulting in an increase in customer numbers.

“We had to double our workforce as a result,” she said.

Demand has continued to rise, prompting Younique Aesthetics Ltd to open a clinic and training academy on Chichester Street on November 15.

“We have provided more than 21,000 treatments since the clinic first opened in 2005,” Ms McGarrity said.

“We have been affected slightly by Brexit in that there are some changes to GDPR relating to our clients from the Republic of Ireland, but other than that we haven’t really been affected.

“We have been asked by quite a few people to come to Belfast and it has been about a year and a half in the planning, so it’s very exciting that it’s finally happening.”
