Unionists pen letter urging UUP’s Aiken not to split North Belfast vote

-

Frankie Benson:

Aiken should turn a blind eye to the letter, the same way the DUP turn a blind eye to the farmers pleading to remain in the EU.

Stevie McCabe:

Funny, the farmers I know in the Fermanagh area all voted to leave.

Colly Murphy:

Ask them again what they’d like to do if given another vote, or remain in the EU.

Paul Harley:

Sure they did.

Frankie Benson:

The farmers I know everywhere else voted to remain.

Stephen McClelland:

Folks, this is supposed to be a democracy. This is going to be another loyalist back-patting session. Fair play to the UUP.

Liesel Radcliffe:

There needs to be a unionist party that isn’t stuck in the Dark Ages, that doesn’t quote religion, that moves forward with equality issues, that represents all in their constituencies, that is open-minded, that is open to compromise.

Meg Spence:

When are all unionist politicians and unionist voters going to see the bigger picture? We need one unionist party, or at least some kind of pact to keep Sinn Fein from completely ruining Northern Ireland. Also, it’s time the British Government issued an ultimatum: those MLAs who don’t return to Stormont will lose their salary immediately.

Janice Wilson-Haslem:

I agree, though I wouldn’t want a unionist party based on the DUP. I would want to see a new, forward-thinking party.

Meg Spence:

Yes, totally agree.

Ross Buchanan:

Here’s a thought: if Sinn Fein were to back down, a more centrist unionist party would come to the fore.

Emma Sarah Doherty:

Meg Spence, you are entitled to your view. However, firstly, Sinn Fein MPs don’t get a salary and, secondly, abstentionism is an acceptable political position.

Eamonn McCann:

If they are so keen in wanting the DUP to take the seat in an unfair way, why don’t they just vote for the DUP? Otherwise, allow others who, call me old-fashioned, like to see policies before deciding how to vote to do just that. Stop denying people a choice.
