Swifts need to speed up bid to achieve safety, admits Teggart

DUNGANNON Swifts utility man Ally Teggart admits that the side simply haven’t been performing as they should during their recent struggles.
From table-toppers at the start of the season they have plummeted down the Danske Bank Premiership table to ninth, meaning today’s home clash with fellow strugglers, Institute, is all the more important.
The Swifts looked to have turned a corner in the past couple of weeks, a win over Warrenpoint followed by last weekend’s unlucky reversal at the hands of Ballymena United.
“Kris (Lindsay) told us in the changing room that he thought we should have gotten something out of the game because with our performance over 90 minutes we deserved something,” said Teggart.
“We’re under no illusions that the performances over the past five or six weeks haven’t been good enough.
“We’ve been working hard to rectify that, last week was a big game after we got the win against Warrenpoint and we wanted to build momentum.
“We came away with nothing but we have to put that behind us now and it’s another big game against Institute. We want to turn that corner because Christmas is close and as you go into the split you don’t want to be drawn into a relegation battle.
“You want to get as many points on the board as possible and if we have that performance level we won’t be too far away.
“Institute have been doing well, they like to get it down and play but we have home advantage and if we look at the performances of the last two weeks we have to take positives from that.”
Manager Lindsay is also confident that his side can put more daylight between themselves and Sean Connor’s outfit.
“Of course we want to go and win it and we’ll not be going to set ourselves up just not to get beaten, but it’s one we’ll approach with confidence,” he said.
“Institute have a number of good players so we know it’s going to be difficult but if we put in a performance like we did for the last two weeks, then I’ve every confidence we’ll pick up points.”
