CALUM Best has spoken of his joy after receiving his first piece of his father’s memorabilia.

In a post on social media, Calum said he has never owned any memorabilia belonging to his dad George, the Northern Ireland and Manchester United legend who passed away in 2005, but he is “happy and blessed” with his name and legacy.

He said, however, that he has always wanted to own something belonging to his dad.

On Boxing Day, the 38-yearold received his wish when his aunt Lyndy gifted him a cap from George’s Northern Ireland playing days in 1965-66.

Posting on Instagram, Calum said he was “blown away” by the present.

A MAN has been remanded into custody accused of carrying out a stabbing near a fast-food restaurant in south Belfast.

John McKee (24) appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court yesterday.

He has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to another man on Boxing Day.

McKee, of Clonavogie Gardens in Belfast, was arrested by police investigating the incident at Glenmachan Street.

Prosecutors said that the alleged victim had suffered three stab wounds, two of them to the torso and the other one to the leg.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Although no weapon has been recovered, the court heard that a sheath for a hunting knife was later found in McKee’s home.

Forensic tests are to be carried out on the injured man’s wounds to see if they are consistent with that type of blade, police confirmed.

Defence solicitor Philip Breen insisted that his client “didn’t bring a knife to a fight”.

He argued that a witness to the encounter followed McKee home without seeing him discard anything.

Mr Breen also claimed that the injured party has a history of having weapons.

Bail was refused, however, due to the risk of any further offences.

District Judge Amanda Henderson remanded McKee in custody.

He is due to appear in court again by video-link in four weeks’ time.
