McGeeney may make Campbell full-time skipper

against teams like these, you need strength in depth and Mickey Harte has worked hard to build up the squad,” added McCurry.

“The mood is good in the camp, everyone is prepared to fight for the cause and we want to try and provide the best possible entertainment we can for our loyal followers. Division One is massively competitive and we know we cannot afford to concede ground at any stage.”

ARMAGH manager Kieran McGeeney certainly made one choice surrounding his team’s recent Bank of Ireland Dr McKenna Cup tie against Tyrone at the Athletic Grounds that found considerable favour.

His decision to make Stefan Campbell captain not only fired up the burly forward but such was his influence that he was at the core of the Orchard County’s attacking policy.

With Cavan due to revisit the Cathedral City on Saturday night for what will be their opening game of the Allianz League having hosted the Orchard County in the McKenna Cup, McGeeney is mulling over his selection options and indeed his current policy of rotating the team captaincy.

Campbell could get the nod again before McGeeney makes a final decision in relation to who will lead the side this year.

Armagh beat Cavan handsomely in their earlier meeting this month but they expect a much stiffer test this time round.

Breffni County boss Mickey Graham has lost six players who have left his squad and now he may be forced to experiment further.

Nonetheless, Gearoid McKiernan, Martin O’Reilly, Padraig Faulkner, Conor Madden and Raymond Galligan are still there to bolster the team for what Graham sees as an important outing.

“We lost to Armagh in the McKenna Cup and we don’t want to lose ground early in the league,” said the Cavan boss.

“We are trying to get the right balance. Obviously it is going to be tight in Division Two because no team wants to slip into Division Three and be confronted by having to play in Tier Two of the All-Ireland Football Championship.”

Armagh will follow up their outing against Cavan by travelling to Laois on February 2 and then hosting Kildare the following weekend.

They are still without some key players including Andrew Murnin but appear to have unearthed a new scoring gem in Clan Eireann clubman Conor Turbitt. The Lurgan youngster looks set to see more action as the League unfolds.
