A blooming good idea... florist’s treat for mothers

- BY DAVID YOUNG

BIG-HEARTED florist Kim Davies has found a heart-warming way to make Mother’s Day special.

Kim, who runs Victoriana Florist in the seaside village of Whitehead, will this weekend be distributing special Mother’s Day flower posies to folk in the village who can’t get out and about because of the coronavirus crisis.

The popular florist and her team wanted to give something back to their community at a difficult time for everyone.

”At Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, we make up little posies of flowers which we give to people in the community,” Kim told the Belfast Telegraph last night as she and her colleagues prepared bouquets.

“Usually, we leave them around Whitehead village and put a notice on Facebook telling people that if they find a bouquet to give it to someone they feel in need of a bit of cheering up.

“But this year, because people can’t really get out, we’re going to leave posies on their doorsteps and take some into the two nursing homes that we have here in Whitehead.”

Kim said her business depended on the support of the local community, and she thought it was important to do what she could to bring the beauty and joy of spring flowers into people’s daily lives. “There are a lot of people who can’t see their mummies on Mother’s Day, so we thought it would be a nice wee thing to do this weekend,” she said.

“The community are very good and very supportive of us — so it’s nice to give a little bit back.

“Especially at the minute, with the way things are.

“You want to do something nice for people, because they have been so good to us,” the florist added.
