Fermanagh league to award titles but no relegation

- BY STEVEN BEACOM

THE Fermanagh and Western League have voted to end their season and award titles and promotion on an average points per game basis, but there will be no relegation.

The decision, announced by league secretary Ciara Crawford, means that Tummery Athletic are set to be Division One champions for the first time in their history with Mountfield claiming the Division Two crown and Enniskillen Galaxy winning Division Three.

A statement read that the outcome of the vote had to be ratified by the Irish FA but it is understood the governing body are unlikely to have any issues.

It was revealed that all member clubs and office bearers of the league were initially asked to cast their votes on whether to complete the season on the pitch, commencing no later than June 13, or stop the campaign. The latter option won 24-16.

Three further options were then provided.

No.1 was for the season to be declared null and void with all teams starting the 2020-21 season in the same division. That received 13 votes.

No.2 was for the season to be decided by average points as per the existing tables with all promotion and relegation issues addressed. Trophies would be awarded to all teams finishing in first position. That received 12 votes.

No.3 was

for the season

to be decided by average points as per the tables with all promotion only and no relegation from any division. Trophies would be awarded to all teams finishing in first position. Although the voting was very tight, this proved to be the preferred option with 15 going for it.

League secretary Crawford thanked all the clubs for taking part, adding that the IFA would be informed as to how the Fermanagh and Western League had voted to conclude their season and pointing out that she would be contacting the relevant clubs regarding the presentation of trophies.

Crawford added: “Stay safe during these very strange and stressful times, let’s all remain positive that there are better days to come. “
