Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people
I REFER to the letter you printed on June 11, penned by Ulster Presbyterian, entitled ‘Condemn Israel like Jewish organisations’.
Firstly the writer only mentioned one organisation, B’tselem, which is not a ‘Jewish organisation’; rather it is a Left-wing Israeli organisation. A tribute to Israel’s democracy and openness. Please keep in mind that 20% of Israel’s population are Arab.
As for the letter writer accusing Israel of being the ‘real terrorists’, terrorists do not normally put on a uniform to identify themselves (unlike terrorists in Gaza and the West Bank).
When carrying out defensive actions against Hamas attacks on Israeli women and children, Israel even goes to the length of texting Gazans to warn them to get out of the line of reprisal.
However, Palestinian Hamas keeps its own population captive in order to increase the likelihood of civilian casualties. Terrorist behaviour? I think so.
And finally, I turn my focus on the letter writer’s views that Israel proposes ‘annexation’ of areas in the West Bank.
If Israel does apply sovereignty to any of the disputed areas, this is not against international law. The borders have not been established in that law.
Why? Because the
Palestinians have repeatedly walked away from any discussion.
My firm belief is that they already know that there already exists a Palestinian state. It constitutes twothirds of ‘historic Palestine’. Where is it? It’s called Jordan.
How much more land do the Palestinians want? Well, we know the answer: they want it all. They do not want the Jewish people to have their homeland.
So, Ulster Presbyterian, I say please open your mind to the facts, not some regurgitated bile.
Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people. Try and accept that. It is established under international law.
