Man (29) arrested after stabbing incident at Big Fish
POLICE have arrested a 29-yearold man in connection with a stabbing incident in central Belfast that left the male victim fighting for life in hospital.
Emergency services raced to the stabbing scene at Belfast’s Donegall Quay — close to the Big Fish landmark — at around 9.30pm on Thursday evening as dusk fell.
The victim had been stabbed in the neck.
He was rushed to hospital for treatment for serious wounds.
Last night the victim’s condition was described by police as “critical”.
Police said they were treating the incident as attempted murder.
Detective Sergeant Will Arnott said: “The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an article with blade or point in a public place
“He is currently assisting with police enquiries.”
Last night a former Belfast Lord Mayor, Jim Rodgers, branded the savage attack “absolutely dreadful”.
“I don’t know the circumstances in which this incident took place, but my thoughts and with the man’s family and loved ones,” the UUP councillor told the Belfast Telegraph.
“What has happened
is absolutely dreadful.” He added: Far too many stabbings are taking place in Belfast and throughout the whole of Northern Ireland.”
Detective Sergeant Arnott also issued an appeal to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time to share the information with the police
