Edmund’s cause to celebrate, as Evans gets set for Murray duel
BRITISH No.1 Dan Evans set himself up for today’s Battle of the Brits semi-final against Andy Murray with a third win from three matches.
Evans, ranked 28th in the world, won 6-2 3-6 10-4 against alternate Ryan Peniston in their final group match.
In the other group, Kyle Edmund also maintained his 100% record with a straight-sets win over Liam Broady.
British No.2 Edmund (right), ranked 44th, will play Cameron Norrie in the last-four.
Norrie, the British No.3 who is ranked 77th in the world, sealed his place by outclassing 20-yearold Paul Jubb 6-0 6-2.
Edmund had already booked his place in the semi-finals after beating James Ward and Murray in his opening two matches.
The 25-year-old put in another strong performance against Broady, hitting 22 winners in a 6-3 6-3 win.
“I was watching the football last night and I was buzzing. I didn’t go to bed until about 2am watching all the videos,” said the Liverpool fan.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic’s coach, former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, has confirmed he has coronavirus.
The Croatian had come out in defence of the Serbian over his organisation of the Adria Tour.
The event had to be cancelled after Grigor Dimitrov confirmed he had tested positive. Djokovic has also since tested positive.
Ivanisevic wrote on Instagram: “Unfortunately after two negative tests in the last 10 days, I have just found out I have tested positive for Covid-19. I feel good and don’t have symptoms.”
