Edmund’s cause to celebrate, as Evans gets set for Murray duel

BRITISH No.1 Dan Evans set himself up for today’s Battle of the Brits semi-final against Andy Murray with a third win from three matches.

Evans, ranked 28th in the world, won 6-2 3-6 10-4 against alternate Ryan Peniston in their final group match.

In the other group, Kyle Edmund also maintained his 100% record with a straight-sets win over Liam Broady.

British No.2 Edmund (right), ranked 44th, will play Cameron Norrie in the last-four.

Norrie, the British No.3 who is ranked 77th in the world, sealed his place by outclassin­g 20-yearold Paul Jubb 6-0 6-2.

Edmund had already booked his place in the semi-finals after beating James Ward and Murray in his opening two matches.

The 25-year-old put in another strong performanc­e against Broady, hitting 22 winners in a 6-3 6-3 win.

“I was watching the football last night and I was buzzing. I didn’t go to bed until about 2am watching all the videos,” said the Liverpool fan.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic’s coach, former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, has confirmed he has coronaviru­s.

The Croatian had come out in defence of the Serbian over his organisati­on of the Adria Tour.

The event had to be cancelled after Grigor Dimitrov confirmed he had tested positive. Djokovic has also since tested positive.

Ivanisevic wrote on Instagram: “Unfortunat­ely after two negative tests in the last 10 days, I have just found out I have tested positive for Covid-19. I feel good and don’t have symptoms.”
