Bullish Crocker vows to scale fresh heights

- BY DAVID KELLY

UNBEATEN prospect Lewis Crocker is eager to produce the best performance of his career so far when he returns to the ring on August 26.

Crocker has been handed a golden opportunity to bag a title and, more importantly, make an impact on the domestic scene as he seeks to climb the welterweight rankings.

The Belfast man (right), who has chalked up 11 straight wins, will face former Southern Area champion Louis Greene for the WBO European welterweight belt behind closed doors in Wakefield, with the bout screened live across the States on ESPN+.

Crocker has long been regarded as one of the best young fighters on the way up but this clash with Greene should show us a little more about where he stands on the welterweight ladder.

Crocker said: “Louis Greene is a solid opponent and has fought at a higher level than me and is ranked higher than me, so I’m expecting my toughest fight to date. I’ve always wanted to fight for a title, and you can definitely guarantee that there will be fireworks on August 26.

“I’m excited to be back, especially because it’s headlining my first show too. I’ve been busting for a fight for a while, so to be competing for a WBO European title is a big step up.

“With everything that’s going on in the world, it’s truly great to be part of a show like this. I know my potential and what I want to achieve and this is a good step along that path.”

The show will also feature the debut of fellow Belfast man James Mcgivern.
