Not a single fine issued by PSNI for breaches of face mask rules

-

Jim Greer: Isn’t that terrible. It’s time police were on duty at all shops.

Peter Hughes: I was in one store in Enniskillen on Sunday and not all the staff packing out the floor were wearing them, let alone the customers. It makes you feel unsafe to shop.

Denise Moffett: Shops also need to ensure their hand sanitiser is kept stocked up. I was in Rushmere yesterday and, while there was excellent social distancing in place, several shops had either run out of hand sanitiser, or in one shop the actual hand sanitiser station was broken. Thankfully, I bring my own just in case. And, yes, everyone appeared to be wearing masks. Come on Rushmere, keep up.

Helen Matthews: Shops need to encourage compliance: signs, staff with visors/masks etc.

Lizzie Torbitt: The Government is to blame. They made it too easy to be exempt. I work in a supermarket; staff are exempt, though they are recommending we do during opening hours, but not through the night when we are working with each other.

Christine Thompson: People are getting away with not wearing a face covering. They know that — and they’re loving it. You see it every day. The “look at me everyone. I won’t be dictated to by anyone” gang (excluding exempts, obviously). They need to be made to produce proof.

Jay Tee: Just as well, really. Provide a definition of “face covering” which would stand up in court. They’re not daft. They know what’s going on.

Thomas Harkin: So, to be clear: the only fines handed out by the PSNI to date have been to members of the black community and the Black Lives Matter protestors? Is that right? That can’t be right, can it?

Damo Steen: Good. Better things to be getting on with than running around shops fining people who aren’t covering their mouth with a bit of cloth.

Jenny Hall: PSNI have always said they wouldn’t enforce it.

Mark Neill: Police have enough to do without worrying about face masks.
