Gorman is exactly what Glentoran are looking for, says Mcdermott

GLENTORAN boss Mick McDermott has continued his impressive rebuilding work at The Oval by signing midfielder Dale Gorman.

Dale, the son of former Coleraine and Linfield favourite Tony Gorman, was recently released by Leyton Orient.

The 24-year-old, who began his career at hometown club Letterkenny Rovers, has represented Northern Ireland at Under-17,

Under-19 and Under-21 level.

“We are absolutely delighted to add Dale to our team. He meets the criteria of what we are looking for at Glentoran FC — he is full-time, fit, young and possesses great football ability,” said Mcdermott.

“Dale has performed well in League 2 the past few seasons; we know he will bring that level of professionalism and consistency to our club”.

Gorman joined Leyton Orient ahead of the 2018-19 season and helped the club earn promotion back to the Football League before going on loan to Newport County.

“It’s good to get this over the line,” he said. “I played in some big games for Northern Ireland and really enjoyed those experiences. I enjoyed my time in England too but I wanted to stay in full-time football and Glentoran provided that.

“Glentoran got in contact with me and things progressed from there. Seeing what they are about excites me. They are one of the biggest clubs in Ireland with a great fanbase and I want to be successful and win trophies.

“I always keep an eye on the Irish League. I love watching the highlights and it’s getting better each year. It’s a great place to play football. A lot of people can see this as a step back for a player but it’s still full-time football for me and I want my career to kick on for the better.

“I can remember watching the Irish League before and the club has changed a lot on and off the pitch.

“I will be competitive and give 100% every time I wear the jersey.”

The Glens, meanwhile, continue to be linked with former Cliftonville ace Jay Donnelly.

The striker joined Belfast Celtic in January after serving a three-month prison sentence for distributing an indecent image.

Jay’s brother Ruaidhri joined the east Belfast side from Cliftonville in January.
