Mchugh’s idea a virtual success with Fermanagh

FORMER Donegal footballer Mark Mchugh is certainly leaving no stone unturned in his current role as trainer of the Fermanagh team which will meet Down in the Ulster Minor Football Championship quarter-final at Brewster Park, Enniskillen tomorrow (1pm).

Mchugh organised a series of Zoom meetings recently which saw personalities such as Tómas O Sé, Aidan O’shea, Paul Flynn and Ryan Jones impart their thoughts to his squad as to how they might progress.

Mchugh’s own father Martin, an All-ireland winner with Donegal in 1993, has also been doing his bit via the Zoom medium with the squad.

Te a m mana ge r Maur i c e Mcloughlin, aware that Down will pose a big test, has a generous ration of talent at his disposal that includes Ross Bogue, Cillian Murray, Niall Maguire, Sean Conlon, Justin Mcdaid, Ronan Mccaffrey, Fionan O’brien and Michal Prusakiewicz.

Tyrone, meanwhile, will face Donegal at Maccumhaill Park, Ballybofey tomorrow (1pm). Manager Collie Holmes has drawn up a squad that includes several players who have experience at this level, while Donegal will be a relatively new-look outfit.

Derry manager Martin Boyle has a number of players with familiar surnames in his squad and that could bode well for his team’s chances against Armagh at Owenbeg tomorrow (1pm).

Matthew Downey will lead a Derry side that is likely to include Lee Brady, Adam Mcgonigle and Dan Higgins.

Meanwhile, Antrim are geared up for a tough test as reigning Ulster minor champions Monaghan will be visitors to the new-look Corrigan Park, Belfast tomorrow (1pm).
