Kawasaki deal a dream come true for Mcglinchey

- By Roy Harris

AGHADOWEY racer Eunan Mcglinchey has been snapped up by Gearlink Kawasaki adding to the company’s strong lineage with this part of the world.

A number of riders from the province have benefited from the support of the Wiltshire-based company, including Glenn and Andrew Irwin, Alastair Seeley and Jamie Hamilton.

Now the 22-year-old will join for his rookie season in the British Supersport Championship where he will ride alongside Australian Ben Currie.

“I’m over the moon to be joining the Gearlink Kawasaki team for 2021,” said. Mcglinchey.

“Growing up I used to watch BSB with my dad and this was one of the teams that I always took notice of. To be actually riding for them is like a dream come true.

“It will be a new challenge for me, but one I relish. Supersport looks to be a competitive class and I hope to be running at the front from race one.”

Team owner Michael De Bidaph added: “Eunan is a young, talented rider and we cannot wait to start working with him.

“We have a strong history supporting young up and coming riders from Northern Ireland, so we are pleased to continue that tradition and hopefully we can springboard Eunan further in his career.”

Mcglinchey won the 2018 British Junior Supersport championship and finished fourth in the 2019 British Junior Supersport series before competing in the ultra-competitive World Supersport 300 championship this year.

It will be an absorbing 2021 Supersport season with Mcglinchey going head-to-head with 18-yearold Rhys Irwin from Donegal making his debut in the class riding for the championship-winning Appleyard Mcadam Yamaha team.
