The buzz in the town will keep us going, insists Sule

LARNE midfield ace Fuad Sule says the club enter 2021 aiming to challenge for every trophy possible.

The Inver Park outfit go into the new year leading the Danske Bank Premiership with the County Antrim Shield already in the bank.

Tomorrow, as the campaign resumes following an enforced break due to Covid-19 restrictions, unbeaten Larne are at home to Ballymena United, who have jumped into fourth place.

Title rivals Linfield and Crusaders will hope that Larne’s momentum will have been halted, but Sule, key to the club’s success to date, doesn’t see it that way.

“From the moment we were told that the Christmas fixtures wouldn’t take place we have focused on the Ballymena match, so it doesn’t feel as though our momentum has been stopped,” said Sule.

“You can sense a great buzz in the town about what we have been doing so far this season.

“The County Antrim Shield may not be the most prestigious trophy but it was still a trophy to put in the cabinet and make our fans happy, which is what we want. I think it is just the start of what’s to come for this club because we want to challenge for everything possible.

“The camaraderie in the dressing room is excellent, which is important, and we are under no illusions that there is still a lot of hard work to do and matches to be played and won.

“We haven’t lost a game yet, which is testament to the boys and that hard work we have put in. In any season you will always have a blip or a bad day and I’m excited to see how we react to that bad day when it does come and see if we have the mental capacity to deal with it.

“Obviously we want to be in and around the title challenge and Europe when it comes to May. If we get our processes right and we do what the manager and coaching staff want us to do the rest takes care of itself. We focus on putting good performances in and hopefully that will be enough to win games.”

The Sky Blues, meanwhile, are anxious to hold onto defender Ciaran Kelly, who has been on loan from Bohemians.

“He is a Bohemians player,” said United chief David Jeffrey.

“We would love to have him stay here, even just to the end of the season, but that’s not in our gift to sort as it’ll be up to Bohemians and Ciaran to decide.

“We’ve been in contact with them and will stay in touch, and can only wait and see what happens, but unless something changes Ciaran is only here until early January.”
