Book club: Door opens on Camilla’s online Reading Room for literature lovers
THE Duchess of Cornwall is featured in a new photograph that marks the imminent release of her Reading Room book club’s first four titles.
Camilla was photographed in the garden room of Clarence House for the image taken by photographer Jennifer Pattison.
The picture was uploaded to the duchess’ Reading Room Instagram account — an online resource the royal hopes will become a haven for literature lovers across the globe.
Camilla, an avid reader, hopes to encourage book fans of all ages to discover new writers through her Reading Room and tomorrow the first four titles recommended by the duchess will be announced.
The duchess’ project is being supported by Charlie Mackesy, author and illustrator of The Boy, The Mole, The Fox And The Horse, which has caught the imagination of many during the coronavirus pandemic.
Camilla isn’t the only royal with a book announcement.
Sarah, Duchess of York has told how her new Mills & Boon heroine is strong, rebellious, courageous and loves to ride side-saddle. The Duke of York’s ex-wife has landed a book deal with the romantic fiction publisher, admitting she “drew on many parallels from my life” for the historical love story.
The book, set for release in the summer, follows a fictional account of the life and loves of the duchess’s great-great-aunt Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott who is banished from polite society after fleeing an arranged marriage.
In a video released on Twitter to promote her debut novel Her Heart For A Compass, an excited Sarah said: “Lady Margaret. She loves to ride side-saddle. She’s strong. She’s rebellious. She’s courageous. We are going to publish in August 2021 and I’m so excited! So pre-order now and come with me on this extraordinary journey.”
