ances ahead of the triple-header.

“What an unbelievable achievement it will be to have someone who can say they hold the British record for most caps,” added Baraclough.

“Davo, what can I say about him that I haven’t already said? He’s an immense leader, he’s someone who goes about his job quietly and very effectively.

“This year he’s been in as good a form as he’s been for years with Rangers, winning the league. But the games I’ve concentrated more on have been the ones in Europe. He’s stood out in those games, which tells you he can still do it at this level, he can still do it for his country and while he’s still got the hunger and the desire, I’ve got no reason to move him out of the squad. He’s my captain.”

Baraclough dismissed any assertion Davis’ achievement is diminished because it was ‘only Northern Ireland’.

“To get caps for any country is an achievement and Northern

Ireland, we’re a small nation with a small pool,” he added. “We’ve been punching above our weight for a good number of years, and Steven has been a massive part of that. He’s turned up to every camp when Northern Ireland weren’t doing well and weren’t getting results and credit to him.

“His family have made massive sacrifices in allowing that to happen, you don’t see that on too many occasions, and to amass the amount of caps he has, 124, is a great achievement at any level.”
