Santa Bill still dishing out Christmas dinners to those in need, 21 years on

-

AFTER 21 years, local man Bill Burke is still dishing out Christmas dinners to those in need on the big day.

The initiative by the Knights of Columbanus is a real community effort, with volunteers to donate food and finance, deliver the meals, and of course do the cooking.

Up to 150 dinner were driven to their destinations this year, providing hot meals for those who otherwise may have had nothing.

'I'll keep it up as long as I can!' said Bill, who this year had some welcome help from his grandsons.

He added that members of the Lions Club always lend a helping hand and their support is greatly appreciated.

The annual drive to get the meals out to those in need started on a much smaller scale and has increased year after year.

' The main aim of the project is to make contact with those in need and with elderly people living alone and to ensure that they have a hot dinner on the day, and a welcome friendly visitor to bring them some Christmas cheer,' explained Bill.
