Petition to have bus stop reinstated

-

A PETITION calling on Bus Eireann to start servicing Barndarrig again has been started up.

In October of last year Bus Eireann revised its routes, bypassing large chunks of County Wicklow, including Barndarrig. The Route 2 changes meant all stops between Arklow and Kilmcacanogue were effectively ceased.

Local man Seamus Murphy says the timetable revisions have left many in the community stranded, especially students and the elderly who used the Route 2 service regularly to get into Dublin city centre.

He is one of the leading forces behind the petition.

‘A petition will be placed in shops and churches for people to sign over the coming weeks. It is hoped that Bus Eireann will see sense and start servicing the area again. We will also be lobbying our local representatives.’

Mr. Murphy argues that it makes no sense for buses not to stop at Barndarrig when they are running along the old route.

‘It is extremely frustrating for people as the service passes by the parish up to 20 times a day.’
