Katie crowned RTE Sports Per­son 2012

NOT EVEN a tech­ni­cal glitch could stop Bray bruiser Katie Tay­lor as she ac­cepted an award that can be con­sid­ered the ic­ing on the cake of a mem­o­rable year.

‘I think my dreams be­came the whole na­tion’s dream,’ said box­ing hero Katie Tay­lor af­ter be­ing named RTE Sports Per­son of the Year.

Katie’s fi­nal award of her in­cred­i­ble year was pre­sented to her by sports min­is­ter Leo Varad­kar, how­ever a tech­ni­cal glitch meant the na­tional broad­caster cut to an ad just as she re­ceived the tro­phy.

Katie is back train­ing by now, in prepa­ra­tion for a busy year of bouts, af­ter a two-day break over Christ­mas.

‘I am just look­ing for­ward to fo­cus­ing on my train­ing af­ter Christ­mas. It has been tough over the last few weeks fit­ting ev­ery­thing in. It has been such a great year for women’s box­ing so we need to keep push­ing on.’

Tay­lor has an­nounced a sec­ond fight date in Dublin af­ter tick­ets sold out for her Fe­bru­ary date at the Bord Gáis En­ergy The­atre sold out in record time.

She will now fight at the same venue on Fri­day March 22. Op­po­nents for the two bouts have yet to be named.
