Katie crowned RTE Sports Person 2012

‘I THINK MY DREAMS BECAME THE WHOLE NATION’S DREAM’

-

NOT EVEN a technical glitch could stop Bray bruiser Katie Taylor as she accepted an award that can be considered the icing on the cake of a memorable year.

‘I think my dreams became the whole nation’s dream,’ said boxing hero Katie Taylor after being named RTE Sports Person of the Year.

Katie’s final award of her incredible year was presented to her by sports minister Leo Varadkar, however a technical glitch meant the national broadcaster cut to an ad just as she received the trophy.

Katie is back training by now, in preparation for a busy year of bouts, after a two-day break over Christmas.

‘I am just looking forward to focusing on my training after Christmas. It has been tough over the last few weeks fitting everything in. It has been such a great year for women’s boxing so we need to keep pushing on.’

Taylor has announced a second fight date in Dublin after tickets sold out for her February date at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre sold out in record time.

She will now fight at the same venue on Friday March 22. Opponents for the two bouts have yet to be named.
