ARKLOW TOWN FC

There may have been no competitive games over the Christmas period however Arklow Town FC players were still busy with a host of friendly fixtures taking place.

The boys from the U-10A team were invited to participate in a one-day tournament on Saturday 29th December 2012 organised by the Wexford Youths Academy and did extremely well against some very tough opposition.

The boys played a total of six games end ran out with two wins, two draws and two defeats.

In their first game of the tournament the lads played out a 0-0 draw with the Gorey Academy and this was followed with a defeat at the hands of Coolboy Rangers.

A great team performance saw the Town boys then beat Wexford Albion SAFC 4-1 before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Forth Celtic FC in their fourth game.

The lads finished strongly with a 1-1 draw against the Wexford Academy before defeating Crossabeg AFC 4-0 in their final game.

A wonderful day out for the boys who thoroughly enjoyed their experience.

Our good friends from North End United FC in Wexford visited Lamberton on Thursday 27th December 2012 to take on the U12A and U-14A squads in two consecutive games.

North End United got the upper hand in the first game winning by a narrow margin of 2-1 with Callum Randall on the scoresheet for the Town.

In the second game it was the home side that took the spoils through goals from Matthew Dempsey, Tom Somers and Nathan Cullen to win 3-2. We would like to thank John Godkin and the North End United teams for taking the time to travel for these mid-season friendlies.

The U-12A boys had a particularly busy Christmas break with additional friendly games against Cabinteely Boys FC and St Kevin's Boys FC.

Away from the pitch, Arklow Town FC players, Conor Breslin and Stewart Mills, along with Team Manager, Tony Breslin, took part in the annual Arklow Lions Club Tom Clandillon Memorial Swim on St Stephen's Day.

On the Wicklow County front, the U-13 squad, under the management of Karl Brauner, had a good victory at Stepaside when they beat Mount Merrion FC 9-2 in a Christmas friendly.

It was encouraging to see Arklow Town FC players, Tom Somers, Andrew Maher and Shane Keenan put away six of the nine goals for the Wicklow team while Conor Breslin and Kian Bolger also played particularly well.

Looking forward, the U-12 Wicklow County Squad are scheduled to hold a training camp in Rathnew on Wednesday 2nd January 2013 from 10.00am - 1.30pm and we also hear that a friendly game has been arranged for next Saturday.

The U-15 squad enters its final trials period on Friday 4th January 2013 with three sessions at Lamberton while the U-11 boys have further trials in Rathnew on Sunday 6th January 2013. Best wishes to all boys involved in the trials sessions.

The big news for Arklow Town FC over the Christmas period was the launch of the new Club Website.

The site is also linked to the club's Facebook and Twitter accounts to make logging on to our social sites much easier.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS F.C.

With the festive break almost over the coming weeks will see all of our teams slowly get back into action.

The U-8s and 9s whose games are noncompetitive will have indoor Futsal on their return to action with further details to come in the weeks ahead.

Our U-11s have completed their league programme and are assured of at least a third place finish.

Not bad and if the team can tighten things up at the back and picking more points up on their travels they'll certainly be in the shake up in the upcoming Shield competition.

The U-12s have qualified for the Shield final with a game or two to spare but as yet their opponents in the final are unknown. Likewise the U-14s have qualified for their respective Shield final and like the 12s they are awaiting confirmation of their final opponents.

Both teams will have plenty of tough games in 2013 but they both have the players to meet these challenges head on.

In our girls section both the 16s and 18s squads are moving along nicely and if both sides can avoid injuries to key players both have a promising season ahead both in the Metropolitan and Leinster cups.

Both teams should also be in the shake up at the top end of the League table come the end of the season.

A number of our players from the teams above are also in contention for representative honours both at county and national level and we will keep you all informed of all players progress throughout 2013.

Thank you for all your support and all at Newtown Juniors F.C. wish all players, parents, supporters, opponents, referees and leagues a very happy New Year.

Everyone in the club sends their best wishes for a speedy recovery after his recent operation to club treasurer and U12s co-manager Dave McGuirk and on a sadder note the club extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Tess Gilligan from Bray who sadly passed away just before Christmas. May she rest in peace.

A number of our players will celebrate a birthday around this time and they are from the U-9s we have the quartet of Brian Coleman, Laragh Davis, Rebecca and and Sam Gillan, Stephen Doran from the U-11s, Amy Irwin from the girls U-16s and last but not least Cliona Crammond from the girls U18s.

Happy birthday everybody from all at Newtown Juniors F.C.

Reminder to all parents/guardians that the remainder of all membership fees were due to be paid on or before December 1 2012. If you have not fully paid by this date you may not be able to play matches.
