Students arrange celebration of 100 years of education
THE GATHERING 2013 isn’t just confined to family reunions and clan gatherings – other exciting events lined up include school reunions, adventure sports activities, historical festivals and international polo games.
Three PLC students have organised an event celebrating 100 years of education in Baltinglass. Scoil Chonglais will host the reunion as the school will welcome all who attended the Old Convent, the old Technical School and Scoil Chonglais itself. The event is open to everyone aged over 18 years of age, with the reunion taking place on March 9.
On April 5, the Dominican College in Wicklow town has an evening of school tours organised. Participants will then be led into Fatima Hall for a meet and greet with staff, past and present. The party starts afterwards with photo displays and music from local bands.
Tulfarris House Hotel, Blessington has arranged a one-day adventure race for May 25. The race is made up of three elements – kayaking, biking, off road running – and there are three distances to compete in. This year also features for the first time in Ireland a junior moxie open to those aged between 15 and 18. Participants are encouraged to race in a team of four, as well as individually, under your family, club, school or county name.
Over two days in July Wicklow Sailing Club will host sailors from the UK and further afield, both as individual visiting boats and those participating in the Irish Sailing Association Gathering Cruise. During their two days stay from July 13 to July 14, the guests will be transported around County Wick- low and visit the likes of Glendalough, Enniskerry and Avoca.
They will also be brought an a tour of Wicklow’s Historical Gaol.
On July 6, Russborough House, Blessington will be a feast of activity, with everything from Arias on the lawn, to Guided Tours of Russborough, to talks, traditional craft demos, 3D photographs from all over the globe in 3D, 1920s 2D cinema footage from Turkey, China, USA and beyond. Russborough also invites you to enjoy a traditional feast BBQ, historic food demos, music, performance, history, art, learning and a culturally inspiring experience that you will remember for life.
Baltinglass and District celebrates The Gathering 2013 with an event that promises to be both spectacular and exciting for local people and visitors alike. The National Balloon Association is delighted to partner with the community, for the first time ever, for a three day extravaganza of Hot Air Ballooning.
These magnificent colourful aircraft will ascend to a backdrop of the town's landmark 13th century Cistercian Abbey right on the River Slaney, on the edge of the town. Taking place in June, for three days Baltinglass will come alive with street entertainment, a Country Market, facepainting, music, sporting events, children's art competitions, exhibitions and talks, and lots more.
The Polo Wicklow Arena, Kilpoole, has two different days lined up as part of The Gathering. On April n7 Ireland take on the USA in a match celerbrating the 20th anniversary of Polo Wicklow.
Anyone who comes along can also enjoy the food and shopping villages, live music, dancing, Irish dancers and cheerleaders. Come dressed for your country and you will receive a discount at the gate.
On August 17 the Polo Wicklow Arena hosts an international polo tournament featuring four international team. Ladies Day also takes place.
