Jazz festival hosts up to 40 concerts

-

BRAY JAZZ FESTIVAL will host up to 40 concerts, recitals and jazz trail shows this May bank holiday weekend as part of The Gathering 2013.

Musicians and jazz fans from all over Ireland and the world are expected to converge on the town for the three days of the festival to enjoy music and good company.

This will be the 14th annual jazz festival with hundreds of musicians to participate as solo acts, trios, or quintets and in a wide variety of styles.

Last year's highlights included Norway's Tord Gustavsen Trio at Mermaid Arts Centre, Susana Baca from Peru at the same venue, and Don Byron's New Gospel Quintet, also at Mermaid.

This year will also include the festival trail around the town's pubs, bringing music to the masses free of charge.

The now indispensable ' World Stage @ Katie's' will continue to be a staple of the renowned Bray music festival, as well as the late-night shows upstairs in the Martello.

Festival Director George Jacob has been there from the very start and has stuck with the festival through good times and bad.

Despite financial pressures, the festival's reputation has remained stellar in international jazz circles year in year out.
