Little Red Riding Hood opens Friday

ROUNDWOOD Variety Group has been working tirelessly on their forthcomin­g production of Little Red Riding Hood over the past few months.

This year they are working under the new direction of Chris Currid from Newcastle and choreograp­hy of Patrice Brady from Roundwood. Jackie Curran Olahan will again be providing the musical direction for the group.

There are over 40 people involved in the cast this year. Some familiar faces are back with the group, along with new ones to which we are delighted to have on board. This hilarious pantomime is not be missed and has among its cast John Harkin who is a newcomer to the stage, playing the role of Magior, the wicked Magician. Niamh Kinlan who plays the Queen Of The Fairies and her husband, Oberon who is King of the Fairies is being played by Helena McHugh.

Danny Healy, who played The Dame in a previous production, will be playing the Grandma with her husband and big bad wolf Peter Stankley. Lucy Cooney will take on the role of Little Red Riding Hood with Keith McCormack playing the Prince. Little Red Riding Hoods best friend Polly will be played by Isabelle Kelly and her crush Simple Simon Pudding will be played by Grainne Donnelly, with his parents Rice and Tapioca Pudding being played by Siobhan Wolohan and Janet Armstong. The Prince's ever-efficient Squire, Humble Grumbly will be played by Stephen McCormack. and Prudence Pudding will be played by Roisin Belton. Evers O' Greedy will be played by Niamh Fulham with her partner Lauren Harkin playing Willemena Weasel. Other cast members include chorus, junior chorus, pit singers Mary Margaret Molloy, Sean Olahan, Elaine Lawlor and Maria Doyle.

A big thank you to Martin Gaffney and his backstage crew who once again take on the mammoth task of making sure the stage and all the sets are ready for opening night and to Elizabeth Belton for doing such a superb job on quite a number of the costumes. Little Red Riding Hood opens in The Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh, on Friday, January 25 and runs until Sunday January 27 nightly at 8 p.m. with a matinee on the Saturday and finishing with the matinee on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Tickets cost €15 for the 8 p.m. shows for Friday and Saturday and €12 for the matinees.
