Wicklow v Down - On Sunday, January 20, Bray Emmets hosted another inter-county fixture when the Senior Wicklow hurlers took on Down in Round 1 of the Bord Na Mona Kehoe Cup in Old Conna. The game was played on our fantastic 3G astro pitch so by our reckoning, a little piece of history was made as it was the first time both counties had played a competitive fixture on an artificial surface.

There was no doubting the star of the show as Andy O'Brien helped himself to 1-8 for the home side in a game which Wicklow led by 0-9 to 0-7 at the interval. His goal, coming two minutes after the restart, meant that Wicklow held a 1-12 to 0-9 lead in the 49th minute.

However, Down cut the gap to a goal with five minutes remaining and despite a nervous finish, Wicklow held out for a hard earned three-point win. Next up for Wicklow is a tie against Dublin City University.

Again, thanks to all the club volunteers who assisted on the day and we're sure both county footballers and hurlers will have little hesitation in returning to use our facilities.

Garden County GAA Awards - The Garden County GAA Awards took place on Saturday, January 19 in the Arklow Bay Hotel.

The well attended event saw over 400 people present for a night where hurlers and footballers of every level from around the county are honoured.

President of the GAA, Liam O'Neill, addressed the crowd before the awards ceremony got underway.

Our two recipients, Luke Maloney (Minor Hurler of the Year) and Conor Flannery (Junior C Footballer of the Year) collected their awards on the night much to the pride of the large group representing the club.

We had 20 people sitting at the Bray Emmets table and all in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the night.

Once again, congratulations to both Luke and Conor on their fantastic achievements in 2012.

The awards were very much deserved and it is great to have the feats of Bray Emmets players acknowledged in the county.

GAA Foundation Coaching Course - The club has arranged to host a Foundation Coaching Course for adult playing members beginning on Saturday, January 26.

The course is seven and a half hours in duration and covers four key modules, as well as introductory and conclusion modules. These four modules are - 1: Introduction to Games; 2: Skill Development; 3: Movement Skills; 4: Coaching Children, Youths and Adults.
