TOURIST development in west Wicklow is being hotly tipped to take off by a man who should know - Minister for Tourism and Trade, Charlie McCreevy, from neighbouring Kildare.

The Minister says that he believes the range and quality of tourism products on offer in west Wicklow, on the doorstep of a million Dubliners, will help to correct the imbalance in tourism fortunes between east and west Wicklow.

‘ The existence of these attractions is bound to encourage greater investment in holiday accommodation at every level - something that is needed in west Wicklow if tourism is to expand in line with its potential,’ said Minister McCreevy.

He made his comments on Monday afternoon at the official launch of a 78 seat cruiser, the MV Blessington, on the Blessington Lakes in the latest tourism venture to be launched in the area.
