Balt­in­glass se­cure Di­vi­sion 1 ti­tle af­ter best of the best meet in fi­nals

BOYS Al­lianz Foot­ball County Fi­nals - This week saw the best teams in the county come to­gether for the Al­lianz boys foot­ball fi­nals in the new Wick­low GAA Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence in Bal­li­nakill.

There were su­perb skills on show and ev­ery team gave their all. There were teams from the west, south and north of the county. Di­vi­sion 1: Balt­in­glass, Dunlavin, St. Pat's Wick­low, St. Cro­nan's, St. Kevin's, Cross­bridge, St. Joseph's Tem­plerainey and Aughrim. The win­ners of Di­vi­sion 1 was Balt­in­glass and Dunlavin were run­ners up.

Di­vi­sion 2: Round­wood, New­town, Kil­coole, Bless­ing­ton and Hol­ly­wood. Bless­ing­ton emerged vic­to­ri­ous with Kil­coole as run­ners up. Well done to all on their par­tic­i­pa­tion and to all the ref­er­ees and county coaches on such a suc­cess­ful event.

INTO Skills Chal­lenge - Re­gional skills chal­lenges will take place on Wednes- day, April 2. The foot­ball skills in­clude solo­ing with left and right foot, fist pass­ing with left and right hand and the hook kick with left and right foot.

The hurl­ing/camo­gie skills in­clude solo­ing, ground strik­ing on the run from al­ter­nate sides and jab lift­ing and strik­ing on the run from the hand.

Each school is per­mit­ted to send two rep­re­sen­ta­tives per code to com­pete in - Gaelic Foot­ball (boys), Gaelic Foot­ball (girls), Hurl­ing, and Camo­gie.

Please note that there are age re­stric­tions and if a pupil has al­ready rep­re­sented their county in Croke Park they may not do so for a sec­ond oc­ca­sion so that an­other may.

The age re­stric­tions are as fol­lows - To­tal en­rol­ment third - sixth classes incl. - 200+ - Jan­uary 1 2002; 170-199 - De­cem­ber 1 2001; 140-169 - Novem­ber 1 2001; 110-139 - Oc­to­ber 1 2001; 80109 - Septem­ber 1 2001; 50-79 - Au­gust 1 2001; 30-49 - July 1 2001; 29 or less - June 1 2001.

Teach­ers must bring com­pleted reg­is­tra­tion forms as sent to their schools via email in­clud­ing the dates of birth.

As the tests will be con­ducted at the same time, pupils will only be able to per­form in one of the codes.

The top four pupils in each code will be in­vited to com­pete in the county Pri­mary Schools skill tests sched­uled for Wed­nes­day, April 9 at 11am in Wick­low GAA Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence, Bal­li­nakill, Rath­drum.

The top per­form­ing pupils in the county skills tests will have the op­por­tu­nity to rep­re­sent their school and county dur­ing half-time in selected All-Ire­land se­ries games dur­ing the sum­mer.

It is en­cour­aged that each school host their own in­ter­nal tests to aid se­lec­tion of their rep­re­sen­ta­tives be­fore for­ward­ing them to the district skill tests.

The north east skills test com­pe­ti­tion will be held in Bray Em­mets on Wed­nes­day, April 2 at 11am.

Hurl­ing Coach­ing Con­fer­ence - A hurl­ing coach­ing con­fer­ence will be held on Satur­day, April 5 in Bal­li­nakill, the new Wick­low GAA Cen­tre of ex­cel­lence. The con­fer­ence will cover child and youth as­pects of coach­ing.
