Baltinglass secure Division 1 title after best of the best meet in finals
BOYS Allianz Football County Finals - This week saw the best teams in the county come together for the Allianz boys football finals in the new Wicklow GAA Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill.
There were superb skills on show and every team gave their all. There were teams from the west, south and north of the county. Division 1: Baltinglass, Dunlavin, St. Pat's Wicklow, St. Cronan's, St. Kevin's, Crossbridge, St. Joseph's Templerainey and Aughrim. The winners of Division 1 was Baltinglass and Dunlavin were runners up.
Division 2: Roundwood, Newtown, Kilcoole, Blessington and Hollywood. Blessington emerged victorious with Kilcoole as runners up. Well done to all on their participation and to all the referees and county coaches on such a successful event.
INTO Skills Challenge - Regional skills challenges will take place on Wednes- day, April 2. The football skills include soloing with left and right foot, fist passing with left and right hand and the hook kick with left and right foot.
The hurling/camogie skills include soloing, ground striking on the run from alternate sides and jab lifting and striking on the run from the hand.
Each school is permitted to send two representatives per code to compete in - Gaelic Football (boys), Gaelic Football (girls), Hurling, and Camogie.
Please note that there are age restrictions and if a pupil has already represented their county in Croke Park they may not do so for a second occasion so that another may.
The age restrictions are as follows - Total enrolment third - sixth classes incl. - 200+ - January 1 2002; 170-199 - December 1 2001; 140-169 - November 1 2001; 110-139 - October 1 2001; 80109 - September 1 2001; 50-79 - August 1 2001; 30-49 - July 1 2001; 29 or less - June 1 2001.
Teachers must bring completed registration forms as sent to their schools via email including the dates of birth.
As the tests will be conducted at the same time, pupils will only be able to perform in one of the codes.
The top four pupils in each code will be invited to compete in the county Primary Schools skill tests scheduled for Wednesday, April 9 at 11am in Wicklow GAA Centre of Excellence, Ballinakill, Rathdrum.
The top performing pupils in the county skills tests will have the opportunity to represent their school and county during half-time in selected All-Ireland series games during the summer.
It is encouraged that each school host their own internal tests to aid selection of their representatives before forwarding them to the district skill tests.
The north east skills test competition will be held in Bray Emmets on Wednesday, April 2 at 11am.

Hurling Coaching Conference - A hurling coaching conference will be held on Saturday, April 5 in Ballinakill, the new Wicklow GAA Centre of excellence. The conference will cover child and youth aspects of coaching.
