Corner House Golf Society

The Corner House Golf Society kicked off their new season with our new captain, Willie Walker, teeing off first at Glenmill Golf Club last Sunday, March 30.

A great turn on the day with 23 players turning up in good golfing conditions. The winners were as follows, overall winner on the day with 34 was Jim Nolan.

Winner of class 1 was Martin Riley with 32 points, winner of class 2 was Liam Hyland with 26 points and winner of class 3 with 24 points was Kevin O'Reilly.

The Society would like to thank Pat Long and Avril for the refreshmen­ts that were forthcomin­g afterwards in the Corner House. Our next outing will take place on April 20 in Blackwater, tee off at 10am. New members welcome .

Bridge Hotel Golf Society

Last week's competitio­n was held at Blackwater Golf Club.

First net was won by Jim Hoey with 38 points. Class 1: Roy Brauders with 29 points; Class 2: Paul Sheedy with 36 points; Front nine: Paul Hoey 16 points; Back nine: Tomas Halpin 17 points; Nearest the pin: Stewart Case.

Next Saturday's competitio­n will be held in Arklow Golf Club- tee off 9.30am

Best of luck to the Challenge Cup team who play Blainroe on Saturday, April 5 at 2.50pm in Arklow. Also best of luck to the Junior Foursomes team who play Enniscorth­y on Monday, April 7 at 2.30pm in Courtown. All support welcome.

Ladies Mermaid Ring - The Mermaid Ring competitio­n will commence on Wednesday, April 2 until Wednesday, September 24. The entry fee is €5. Please enter your name on the sheet in the ladies locker room and play your golf. The computer will do the rest for you.

Ladies 18-Hole competitio­ns will commence on Wednesday, April 2 (subject to course conditions).

Upcoming Open - Men's and Ladies Singles Stableford - Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 April.

Reminder - 'Spring into Summer' Fashion Show takes place this Friday, April 4 at 7.30pm in the clubhouse.

Tickets €10 available at the door for this fabulous evening of fashion and fun. Door prize on the night. All are welcome.

Baltinglas­s Golf Club

The Easter League concluded this weekend with yet another great entry for this very popular competitio­n. Thank you to all who supported the league!

Tom Fox and George Bradley had the scores of the weekend with 31pts each.

Category 1 - 1st: Ned Cremin (12) 30pts; 2nd: David Whelan (7) 28pts

Category 2 - 1st: George Bradley (15) 31pts; 2nd: John Walsh (18) 29pts

Category 3 - 1st: Tom Fox (19) 31pts; 2nd: Gerry Foley (18) 30pts.

Michael O'Neill won category 1 with another consistent round while David Whelan's score of 28pts this weekend jumped him deven places to finish second, with Peter Byrne improving his total by two points to hang onto third place.

Simon Palmer won category 2 and was closely followed by Larry Daly and Club Captain Sean O'Connor.

Eddie Hillan romped home in Category 3 with Tom Fox jumping from fourth to second in his category to clinch a playoff place, and Frank O'Neill improved his score by five points to sneak into the playoff. The top 3 in each category are as follows: Category 1: Michael O'Neill 120pts, David Whelan 118pts, Peter Byrne 117pts.

Category 2: Simon Palmer 116pts, Larry Daly 114pts, Sean O'Connor 113pts.

Category 3 Eddie Hillan 125pts, Tom Fox 121pts, Frank O'Neill 119pts.

Rather than having an organized playoff as was stipulated in the Easter League format, the Men's Section committee have decided the overall winner of the Easter League will be decided with the card the top three in each category (as above) post in next weekends competitio­n.

Please note previous scores in the qualifying rounds will not count; it will be decided by the best card posted next weekend among the nine qualifiers!

Club Lotto - Thank for your support for the weekly lotto.

To date in the first six months we have had one jackpot winner of €9,800 and several match three winners of up to €150.

All funds raised go towards maintenanc­e and course developmen­t.

3 Clubs for 1 Sub - The committee in Baltinglas­s Golf Club is very happy to announce details of an alliance with Callan and Roscrea Golf Clubs.

This will give members in the three clubs a range of mutually beneficial playing options such as giving playing rights to alliance members, offering the same entry fees for open competitio­ns to alliance members as ordinary club members and there will be a triangular tournament between the three clubs hosted in each of the three clubs once every three years.

Another objective would be that we all could learn from past achievemen­ts and mistakes.
