‘Vik­ings’ se­ries set to re­sume shoot­ing

THE econ­omy of County Wick­low could be set to re­ceive a ma­jor boost later in the year as the hit tele­vi­sion se­ries ‘Vik­ings' re­sumes film­ing here.

Ear­lier this week it was re­ported that the show would re­turn to the Gar­den County to film its sec­ond se­ries, and in the process could in­ject mil­lions into the Ir­ish film in­dus­try and lo­cal econ­omy.

The His­tory Chan­nel se­ries – star­ring vet­eran Ir­ish ac­tor Gabriel Byrne – be­gan broad­cast­ing on RTE ear­lier this year, and has been well re­ceived by au­di­ences and crit­ics alike.

The first se­ries was shot at a num­ber of lo­ca­tions across the county. Scenes in­volv­ing nu­mer­ous ex­tras were filmed in Ash­ford Stu­dios, while mem­bers of Wick­low Row­ing Club were drafted in and dressed up to look the part as they were charged with row­ing a replica Vik­ing Ves­sel from Wick­low Har­bour to Magher­amore Beach for fur­ther film­ing.
