‘Vikings’ series set to resume shooting

-

THE economy of County Wicklow could be set to receive a major boost later in the year as the hit television series ‘Vikings' resumes filming here.

Earlier this week it was reported that the show would return to the Garden County to film its second series, and in the process could inject millions into the Irish film industry and local economy.

The History Channel series – starring veteran Irish actor Gabriel Byrne – began broadcasting on RTE earlier this year, and has been well received by audiences and critics alike.

The first series was shot at a number of locations across the county. Scenes involving numerous extras were filmed in Ashford Studios, while members of Wicklow Rowing Club were drafted in and dressed up to look the part as they were charged with rowing a replica Viking Vessel from Wicklow Harbour to Magheramore Beach for further filming.
