Back to 1980s for school fundraiser

-

THERE WAS some serious time-travelling afoot at Powerscourt Hotel last Saturday when the band ‘Delorean’ played at an Eighties prom night.

It was a fundraiser for St Mary’s and St Gerard’s National School, Powerscourt, which needs some refurbishment.

However, the whole community got on board to go dancing on the ceiling all night long. As well as the dancing and dinner there was a huge raffle to help raise funds.

The treasurer of the parents committee is still counting the money so they hope there was enough raised on the night to do works from upgrading the heating to refurbishing bathrooms at the primary school.

Many of the 195 guests on the night dressed up either in prom dresses or suits or in full on 1980s garb. There were even a few Madonnas, Axl Roses and other notables from the decade.

The band played loads of songs from the Eighties including hits by Prince, A-ha, Queen, Duran Duran, Jason Donovan and many more.

One of the attendees said it was the most entertaining school fundraiser she had ever been to.
