Sailors to anchor at sea to help brave Jennifer

-

A GROUP of Wicklow sailors plan to anchor themselves at sea for 36 hours to raise money for a worthy local cause.

So far seven boats from the town and surrounding areas will be taking part in the 36 hour anchor in Wicklow Bay over the June bank holiday weekend.

They will be raising money for the Jennifer Penn State Fund which will help send little Jennifer Loughlin of Wicklow Heights to America for vital treatment.

Because of a chronic reflux, Jennifer has to be fed through a tube into her stomach.

Treatment for her problem is not available in Ireland so her parents, Peter and Teresa, need to raise over $40,000 to allow her take part in a special programme in Philadelphia.

The event is being organised by local man Michael Mulvihill.

They are seeking sponsorship and already have received a very positive response from businesses in the area.

The names of individuals and companies who provide sponsorship will be placed on a board in a prominent position in the town.

Other sailing boats are invited to join in.

For information they should contact Michael on (086) 2575110.

Those interested in sponsoring the boats should also contact Michael. Any cheques should be made out to the Jennifer Penn State Fund.

There will be other activities surrounding the 36 hour anchor on June 4 and 5.
