WELL DONE CHLOE

Congratulations to Chloe Shortall, a Sixth year student in Loreto Bray who came second in the Chinese Bridge Competition organised by the Confucius Institute on the 29th March. Chloe had to write and present a speech in Chinese, sing a song and take part in a Chinese culture quiz. Chloe's prize is a trip to China for two weeks in October in order to watch the first place winner compete further in the Bridge Competition. FIRST AID COURSE

An invaluable first aid course was taught to all of the TY classes this year and this week TY5 were taught medical knowledge that they could use in any emergency. From learning CPR to wrapping a bandage, they are now experienced in how to handle a medical emergency.

Gary, the first aid instructor, went step by step in every aspect of first aid, teaching the basics and using real life situations and role play to make the seriousness of an emergency feel real. Aswell as being beneficial, the course made the TY's more confident in themselves and the first aid skills they already had. (Sophia McDonald) FILM WORKSHOP

The Transition Year students of Loreto Bray had the opportunity to write and direct their own short film with the group FilmCircle from Thursday 27th March to Tuesday 1st April.. Each class was given one day and two camera men to bring their ideas to life by the organisation. The students had several weeks prior to come up with a script and establish actors, props and locations, all with the aid of their English teacher.

The workshop enabled the pupils to discover the collaborative effort and organisation essential to create any film and the amount of time necessary to shoot even a couple of minutes' footage, as well as adopting the basics of professional filming and sound equipment. (Órlaith Hennessy)
