THE SECOND outing of the season for the members of the Glencormac Inn Golf Society took place last Saturday in Curtlestow­n GC in Lucan. Three members shot 39 pts but Edmund Mulligan emerged the winner on a back nine countback, Simon Doyle was second and Liam Finnerty third. Paddy Byrne Snr won category One (36 pts), Trevor Carr category two (37 pts) and Jim ‘Fair Do’ McGrath took category three prize (31 pts). Kevin Molloy hit the longest Drive and also won the Front Nine (18 pts) while Paul Murphy won the back nine with 19 pts. Tom Creavin and Shay Quinn won the two nearest the pins. Other random scores was former Society Golfer of the Year Mark Quinn who shot 19 points overall. What happened there ‘Quinner’?

The next outing of the society will take place on Saturday, May 10 in Blainroe G.C. and all second round match play games are to be done and dusted by then. and what an example ‘Our Devo’ is to all. The final is scheduled for the May Bank Holiday in the Carlisle Grounds in Bray which also ties up with the Clubs 40th Anniversar­y Dinner Dance so it promises to be a truly historic weekend. The U8s played a blitz in Ashford and performed very well in their matches to the delight of their coach Andy Free.

The 9s had two matches recently. The first was away to Newtown on Tuesday evening and they were very narrowly beaten by a 3-2 margin by a very big and strong Newtown team. The young Glens did their best and were unlucky not to get a draw at least. Daniel Brady and Kieren Griffith scored a goal each with Erica Conroy, Shane Merriman, Conor Giles & Simon Jasinski all playing well. The 2nd game was on Friday evening away to Greystones B. A brilliant second half performanc­e saw Glens grab an excellent 1-1 draw against another big team with Kieren Griffith scoring a great goal to level the match. Charlie Ward, Jack Carey, Matt Falecikows­ki, Josh Cahill and Michael Prendergas­t all played well. The 10s had an off day and suffered a 7-0 defeat at home to Wicklow Rovers. This team is in need of a few players so please contact Karl Bradshaw if you would like your child to play.
