TWO STUDENTS from County Wicklow will be among the first students in the country to take up residency at a stage of an Irish music festival.
Lynn Brennan from Bray and Andrew Cullen from Arklow - both studying for a National Higher Diploma in Music Production at Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute (DFEI) - and their classmates will take up residency at the Vantastival Music Festival in Lough over the May Bank Holiday weekend, the first time any college in Ireland has accomplished this feat.
Both Lynn and Andrew will DJ onstage over the course of the weekend, which in the past has featured performances from acclaimed musicians such as Damien Dempsey and the Hot House Flowers. The students will also be involved in managing all aspects of the stage over the course of the festival.
They were also among the DFEI students who recorded the album 'Dimensions' which entered the compilation charts last Friday and has been released on iTunes. On that album, Andrew produced a cover of the Bobby McFerrin's ' Don't Worry, Be Happy' with Donabate Educate Together and composed a dance remix of the song ' Suddenly' by Dominic Smith. Lynn produced a remix of 'Better Off Left Behind' which has since been selected as a single from the album, with the first single - ‘Every Time’ - having peaked at number 2 in the hip hop charts
'It's been a great project,' she said of her experience with the group to date. 'I was delighted when the song I produced was selected as a radio single.'
' I've learned a huge amount about the music industry,' Andrew added.
