IT WAS all about the Wicklow hurlers for Saturday and some of Sunday on the Twitter machine this week. The hurlers played tremendously well to see off a tough and spirited Down challenge in Navan to clinch the NHL Division 2B final.

One of the talking points from this game was the freaking out of the Down midfielder Fintain Conway after receiving a red card from the Galway referee.

In the course of his conniption, Conway lashed out at Wayne O’Gorman and Jonathan ‘Bosco’ O’Neill. He punched O’Neill to the ground and then proceeded to launch his size 11 or 12s at fullforce on to the posterior of the Glenealy and Wicklow legend.

This prompted a few sympathetic tweets in tribute to the Wicklow star.

Gavin Weir - @gavinweir94 - Maybe some things are worth getting a kick in he hole for! #leaguechamps #poorbosco @wicklowgaa.

This was followed by Eugene Dunne - @Eugedunne - @wicklowgaa - Down hurler called up to football panel after excellent performance today. #wrongcode #poorbosco

But there were many tweets of congratulations as well including one from our near neighbours in Carlow.

Carlow GAA - @Carlow_GAA - @wicklowgaa - Comgratulations on a fantastic victory today, hopefully we won't be playing ye next year. Best of luck in the Christy Ring Cup.

And also from the Eire Og Greystones club. - Eire Og - @EireOgNCL - Hats of to Wicklow hurlers on promotion to Division 2A especially our clubmen @_stephen_kelly_ & Billy Cuddihy, both starred today @wicklowgaa

But soon the attention swung to the footballers who needed to beat Tipperary in Semple Stadium to be in with a chance of promotion.

Mangan_1992 - @Mangan_92 - Massive game for @wicklowgaa today.. get the win anyway and hope antrim do us a favour #hontheboys #harrysarmy.

Alas, it wasn’t to be and Wicklow pulled off a sensation victory by scoring two goals within two minutes right at the death prompting Wexford star Anthony Masterson to suggest a tactic for just such a game.

Anthony Masterson - @antomasterson1 - If ever there was time to take a black card it was in this game... What a finish @wicklowgaa.

Wicklow GAA News tweeted a picture that was divided in two with the top half containing a shot of the Semple stadium clock and scoreboard and it showed 69.52 C Mhantain (15) Tiob Arann 22 and in the bottom half it had a shot of the scoreboard which read 72.54 C Mhantain (24) Tiob Arann (22).

RTE sports presenter, Des Cahill spotted the tweet and retweeted it saying - Cost me an accumulator @wwgaa Crazy end to Wicklow v Tipp.Wicklow 7 points down at end of normal time but-.

And finally we leave you with this - Diarmuid O'Flynn - @ballyhea14 - Incredible is an overused word, but three goals in one minute of extra-time by @wicklowgaa to beat @TipperaryGAA by two points in AFL D4.
