Cllr. Mcloughlin is outraged after ‘vicious personal attack’ on web

-

A GREYSTONES Town Councillor was subject to a ‘ vicious personal attack’ on social media last week.

Cllr. Grainne McLoughlin said that there were unpleasant comments made about her online in the middle of the night on three different Facebook forums. They were all removed within 24 hours.

‘ The most vile pack of lies was posted up about me last Friday evening,’ she said. ‘It was 100 per cent lies. The post and the comments are now in the hands of the Gardaí with full intentions to pursue to the end’

Cllr. McLoughlin said that this was the hardest thing that had ever happened to her and she was extremely upset by what she has branded online bullying. ‘It’s just unbelievable, it’s sick,’ she said.

The statements in question were made from a bogus account which has since been removed from the site.

‘Every single line of the post was a lie, written specifically to defame me, discredit my name and to put out misleading and false accusations about me. There are cowards behind computer screens who think that because they do not agree with my policies or have agendas to elect specific people that they can say what they like. But this time they have gone too far.

‘Just because I am putting myself up for election gives no-one the right to defame me or anyone else’ she said. ‘ My initial reaction was to walk away, but that is just giving in to the sickest members of our community. You know who you are and you should be ashamed.’

The outraged public representative said that she wants to stand up for everyone who gets abused on Facebook.

Cllr. McLoughlin added that she is overwhelmed and deeply touched by the many messages of support she has received from friends and constituents since the incident.
