Gerard’s pip Pres in debating final

ST. GERARD’S School defeated Presentati­on College Bray on a split decision in the final of the Bray Lions Schools Debating Competitio­n for the Pat Cassidy Memorial Trophy which was held in the Martello last Tuesday evening.

St. Gerard’s proposed the motion ‘ The Irish public have full confidence in how our Dail operates.’

The chairperso­n of the judges, John Smith, Bray Toastmaste­rs, congratula­ted both teams on the standard of their speeches including the use of some memorable comments, their excellent debating skills and they made the judges’ task of picking a winner an extremely difficult decision.

Robert Mac Clancy, Bray Lions Club Convenor, thanked Colaiste Raithin, Loreto, St. Brendan’s, St. David’s, St. Kilian’s, this year’s finalists and their mentors for participat­ing in a very enjoyable series of debates over the past few months.

He also thanked Eddie Dunphy, Kathleen Kelleher and John Smith from the Bray Toastmaste­rs for acting as judges at all the debates.
