St Peter’s climb Maths table
THE students from St. Peter’s Primary School in Bray were third in mathletes Monthly Schools Challenge Primary Division for March.
Students from 5th and 6th class compete in the group of the new national maths competition.
On the back of this excellent performance in March, St. Peter’s are now up to 5th place on the overall leaderboard on the mathletes Primary Division.
Now in its third month of competitive action, mathletes is an innovative national maths competition which uses the Khan Academy, the free online educational resource.
The format of the competition is based on the GAA inter county series with schools and students from every county competing to be the mathletes Challenge Champion 2014.
‘With the county finals starting next month, you can really feel the excitement building up amongst the students,’ said a spokesperson for mathletes. ‘We are getting extremely positive feedback from the teachers, who have observed that students are extremely enthusiastic about the weekly challenges and because of mathletes, the students who normally find maths difficult are making huge progress as their confidence grows with each week that passes.’
The deadline has been extended to Thursday, April 24 to give mathletes more time to master points and qualify for the county finals which are scheduled to start next month on May 10. Students can still register at mathletes.ie and join the race to be crowned MAT Hletes Challenge Champion 2014 and compete for the €20,000 on offer in prizes
