Wonderful glimpse of Wicklow in times past

-

OLD PHOTOS can help give a glimpse into a locality's past, as is certainly the case with these two images of Wicklow Town in days gone by.

Taken along the High Street area in 1952 by an unknown photographer, the pictures show members of the Timmins family playing with other children with whom they shared their neighbourhood.

Margaret Sharp (nee Timmins) - who now lives in the UK, having emigrated with her family in 1955 - brought the pictures back with her on a recent return visit to Wicklow to see distant relations, among them local butcher Derek Dunne, her cousin.

Present in the pictures are Margaret and her siblings Andrew, Patrick and Ellen (born to Patrick and Rosanna Timmins of New Street, Wicklow Town) as well as fellow High Street residents Rosanna and Eleanor Flynn and Carl Cooney.

The other children in the picture are unknown, and the Sharps would be very interested in getting in touch with them if anyone can recognise who they are. They can be reached on 0044 1582 606405.
