Eyre strikes again for Roundwood

-

ALTHOUGH it would appear nobody wants to win promotion from Division 2, Roundwood certainly want to avoid relegation from it.

The Vartry Grounds men looked dead and buried just two weeks ago but two wins in as many weeks now sees them rocketing up the table to a healthy sixth place.

Promotion-chasing Seaview Wanderers were the latest victims as their Andy McEvoy Premier 1 ambitions stalled. Paddy Lee set up Glen Hughes to give Roundwood the lead in the second period but Craig Ledwith equalised to bring Roundwood crashing back down to earth.

But Roundwood grabbed a winner when Robbie Eyre flicked James Boullier’s throw-in into Danny Beale’s path and he buried a half-volley to the net.

Celtic Stars remain the favourites to join St. Patrick’s in the plane to the Premier but a combination of injuries and other unforeseen circumstances led to them awarding Newtown United B a walkover.

Stars are heavily expected to join the Carlow League next term but could still go out on a high by claiming promotion and the Division 2 Cup.
