Mayor presents ‘Smedia’ award to student Alice
MAYOR of Greystones Stephen Stokes was in Dublin recently for the National Student Media Awards.
Mayor Stokes was on hand to present Alice Flanigan (Dublin Institute of Technology) with her 2014 Smedia award for News & Current Affairs in Radio Production.
He also paid particular tribute to Greystones woman Niamh Kelly for her role as Public Relations Officer for the 2014 Smedia Awards, which took place in the Ballsbridge Hotel.
‘I commend everyone who took part in the awards,’ he said. ‘Student journalism is a vibrant area that helps to promote societal engagement. It was a great honour to be involved.’
The Smedia Awards evening is the highlight of the student calendar for many people. A number of celebrities attended including Marty Morrissey (RTE Sports presenter), Bobby Kerr (Dragons Den), Brent Pope (Rugby analyst), Hayley O'Sullivan (Rose of Tralee) and Dave Duffy (Fair City).
