Mayor pre­sents ‘Sme­dia’ award to stu­dent Alice

MAYOR of Grey­stones Stephen Stokes was in Dublin re­cently for the Na­tional Stu­dent Me­dia Awards.

Mayor Stokes was on hand to present Alice Flani­gan (Dublin In­sti­tute of Tech­nol­ogy) with her 2014 Sme­dia award for News & Cur­rent Af­fairs in Ra­dio Pro­duc­tion.

He also paid par­tic­u­lar trib­ute to Grey­stones woman Ni­amh Kelly for her role as Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer for the 2014 Sme­dia Awards, which took place in the Balls­bridge Ho­tel.

‘I com­mend ev­ery­one who took part in the awards,’ he said. ‘Stu­dent jour­nal­ism is a vi­brant area that helps to pro­mote so­ci­etal en­gage­ment. It was a great hon­our to be in­volved.’

The Sme­dia Awards evening is the high­light of the stu­dent cal­en­dar for many people. A num­ber of celebri­ties at­tended in­clud­ing Marty Mor­ris­sey (RTE Sports pre­sen­ter), Bobby Kerr (Drag­ons Den), Brent Pope (Rugby an­a­lyst), Hay­ley O'Sul­li­van (Rose of Tralee) and Dave Duffy (Fair City).
