Emma’s trib­ute to leg­end Nina Si­mone

SINGER Emma Ni­co­lai will take on the work of Nina Si­mone at the Hot Spot Cafe in Grey­stones on Satur­day May 3.

With her de­but solo al­bum and tour due for re­lease later this year, Wick­low singer/song­writer Emma Ni­co­lai will be step­ping out with a spe­cial cel­e­bra­tion of Nina Si­mone, the North Carolina leg­end who gave us such hits as My Baby Just Cares For Me, I Love You Porgy and Feel­ing Good.

With a band that in­cludes Foun­tain­head and He­lium Dog gui­tarist Steve Bel­ton, dou­ble-bassist Cor­mac O'Brien, pi­anist Niall Woods and per­cus­sion­ist Pablo Buerno, Ni­co­lai will also be show­cas­ing some songs from her up­com­ing de­but al­bum dur­ing the show's in­ter­val.

Re­garded by many as the shin­ing light of The Uni­ver­sal Funk Orches­tra, Ni­co­lai's rep­u­ta­tion has been grow­ing steadily over the last 12 months.
