MAISIE KELLY'S takes the honours as two Arklow pub teams contest Gorey area final

It was down to two Arklow pubs in the final of the Gorey District Pub Pools League Division 11 final held recently at Naomh Eanna GAA club in Gorey.

Maisie Kelly's and The Gin Mill, with the honours, and the Cup, going to the men from the Coolgreaney Road hostelry by three games to one.

But this was an achievement also for The Gin Mill, as both that team and Maisie's are now promoted to League Division One for next season's contest.

Also, it was notable that the two Arklow teams were the only ones to compete from the whole of south Wicklow, so some serious pooling is being done in the town.

The contest on the night was decid- ed by a “best of five” formula, with Maisie's winning three of four, so there was no need to play the fifth game.

Joe Weadick, of the Maisie Kelly's team, told The Wicklow People that he wished to express, on behalf of the team, “our special thanks to all the officials of the Gorey League, and to Naomh Eanna for their fantastic hospitality on the night.”
