-

THE ENNISKERRY LIONS will be the envy of football clubs everywhere as they embark on a once-in-a-lifetime football trip this weekend.

The Lions, a combination of the Enniskerry U-12, U-13 and U-14 teams – will be heading to England this weekend where they will visit Old Trafford, take on Manchester City and witness a Premier League match.

For the last five months, these girls have been working tirelessly to raise funds for this trip and now, after what seems like an eternity, it is just two days away.

At 6am on Friday morning, they will jet out of Dublin and after touching down in Manchester, it will be straight off to the Theatre of Dreams for a guided tour at the home of Manchester United.

Next step will be the team’s hotel, where they will have to shake off any jetlag as they take part in a swimming pool session that should ensure that they’re fighting fit for the next day.

On Saturday morning, they will head to the academy of Manchester City to take on the might of Man City, after which they will point their bus in the direction of the Britannia Stadium where they will be flag bearers in the tunnel for the meeting of Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspurs.

There will be no rest for the wicked though as the next morning they will return to City’s academy to train with their academy side before finally heading home later that day.

Manager Karl Brauner and the Lions would like to thank the following: Powerscourt Arms Hotel, O’Neill’s Sport, Leanne Field Singing Tutor, Lilliput Press Dublin, Coillte Training and Safety, Cahill Lawnmowers and Chainsaws for Hire.

The Enniskerry team is: Amy Cahill, Roisin McGovern, Kerrin Murphy, Danielle Singleton, Kelleigh Perry, Laura O’Toole, Sarah O’Toole, Aoife Murtagh, Cliona Byrne, Nicole Keogh, Alannah McEvoy, Ali McNally, Shauna Carroll, Robyn Brauner.
