Fas­ci­nat­ing facts re­vealed in a Record Store Day sur­vey con­ducted by ICM Re­search

•15% of those who buy CDs, cas­settes and vinyl records never lis­ten to them but buy ‘purely to own’

•22% of mu­sic buy­ers who shopped on­line last month bought from Ama­zon, com­pared to 11% who pur­chased from iTunes and 10% on eBay

•CDs are still more pop­u­lar than down­loads, with 57% buy­ing the phys­i­cal discs over the past month com­pared to 39% buy­ing dig­i­tal

• Vinyl continues to grow. 10% of those sur­veyed bought a vinyl record in the past month

•The hum­ble cas­sette is mak­ing a come­back - 5% bought a cas­sette tape in the past month, up from 2% the same time last year

•Su­per­mar­kets ac­count for 12% of all phys­i­cal sales

•70% of those who buy on­line say they do so pri­mar­ily be­cause of con­ve­nience

•41% of buy­ers spend more on­line than in­store per sin­gle visit
